sing-to-this:

I’ve come to a point where I’ve pretty much lost a fight with myself over whether or not I put things Adam Young (Owl City) related on sing-to-this, since it’s more or less supposed to be limited to album reviews, band news, lyrics, and whatnot. I’ve decided that I can’t help but put things here and there about his music up, though I promise I won’t let him dominate anything.

This is always the case with me, someone goes “Ah, so you like music? Favorite band, go.” I always catch my tongue between my back molars because I don’t want to say Owl City and have all my musical tastes judged right there. If you’ve been watching this blog for any amount of time, you know I’m at least a bit varied. So I normally respond with “Oh, you know, I like lots of things. Like Anberlin and <insert current favorite> and uh… wellOwlCityIlovehismusicsomuch.”

And if the person is at all curious, they’ll go “Why Owl City”? I’ve thought for a long while on this, and I truly believe that this song answers it. I love all his random nonsensical daydreaming songs, I love his side projects, I love his ridiculous twitter feed that I look at to make me laugh, but when it comes down to it, I respect him. I stand amazed at his Christian faith, and how strong he is in what he believes (and the kind of music he puts on his records really does reflect that). AP (Alternative Press) did an article on him after his release of All Things Bright and Beautiful, and the reporter was tongue-in-cheekly laughing about how Adam still lives in the same town as his parents and shops at the local Albertsons, even after he’s been on two world tours.

I suppose, in a way, he’s something of a role model to me. I really look up to him, as quirky as he is. His rendition of “In Christ Alone” hit me as I was working through some of my own issues in my walk with God, and it filled me with a wonderful hope. I don’t mean to idolize him or anything of the sort, but I do owe a lot to the guy and his music. So thanks, Adam. Thank you so much.

“For those of you who’ve been with me since Of June, it may take a bit of getting used to, but as an artist I’m extremely proud of the endeavor and magic I’ve been able to capture in a jar — and my prayer since day one of this roller coaster ride stands true: that my Savior use the blood, sweat and tears of this humble servant to do His will in whatever context or capacity He deems suitable. For that is what this is all about. Not fame, not fortune, not a guy trying to sound cool writing about “his awesome new record” in a blog on the internet… but merely a dreamer lost in the pursuit of excellence, virtue, honor and high standards. Street date in August. I can’t wait for you to hear it. Glory to God.” -Adam Young

Oh. New album coming in August by the way!

same thoughts here! He’s my inspiration!
